Bassent: Trump to Decide on Extending Trade Negotiations Beyond July 9
Three months after Trump postponed reciprocal tariff implementation, the US has only reached agreements with a few countries like the UK and Vietnam. Treasury Secretary Bassent stated that Trump will decide whether to extend negotiations with trade partners beyond the July 9 deadline.
When asked about a possible deadline extension on CNBC, Bassent said: "We will act according to the president's will, and he will decide if they are negotiating in good faith." Bassent mentioned meeting with EU trade representatives and that US Trade Representative Grill will "work hard over the weekend" with European officials. Regarding Japan, Bassent said no agreement has been reached, possibly due to domestic political complications.
