The OpenAI CEO-co-founded project evolves into a unified platform based on identity authentication.
World, a decentralized biometric identity verification project co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has released the latest version of its application. TechCrunch reported today that World has launched a "super app" that integrates cryptocurrency payments and end-to-end encrypted chat functionality. The new version has two key features. First, "World Chat" is a messenger service that utilizes end-to-end encryption technology on par with Signal. This chat feature visually indicates whether a conversation partner has been authenticated by the World system through a colored speech bubble. The development team explained that this allows users to verify the true identity of their chat partner and encourages voluntary identity verification.
The digital payments sector has also seen significant enhancements. The new app offers cryptocurrency sending and receiving capabilities, similar to Venmo. Users can receive their paychecks directly through a virtual bank account and have their funds deposited from their bank accounts, all of which can be converted into cryptocurrency. Notably, these payment features don't require World's identity verification system.
This latest update marks World's transition beyond a simple biometric authentication project into a comprehensive platform encompassing messaging, payments, and identity verification. In particular, the optional identity authentication system seeks to balance user convenience and security, taking the platform a step closer to building a cryptocurrency-based financial ecosystem.
