We have been receiving inquiries about the Chainalysis metrics cited in a recent Binance announcement and blog. To clarify:
- This analysis was conducted by Binance based on select Chainalysis data. Chainalysis did not conduct the analysis.
- The data Binance used for their analysis does not appear to include all categories of illicit activity that Chainalysis tracks; for example, it does not include ransomware and funds stolen in hacks.
- The Binance analysis also indicates that it is based on direct exposure only; in other words, if an illicit entity sends funds to a personal wallet, and then that wallet sends funds to Binance, it is not included in this analysis.
