Metaplanet Buys Another 780 BTC, Bringing Total Holdings to $2 Billion

Metaplanet just bought an additional 780 BTC with a total value of around $92.5 million, demonstrating strong confidence in the future of Bitcoin. The Tokyo-listed company reported that it purchased these Bitcoins at a Medium price of $118,622/BTC, raising its total holdings to 17,132 BTC – equivalent to approximately $2 billion at current prices. CEO Simon Gerovich shared on X that the total BTC owned by Metaplanet was purchased at a Medium price of $101,030/BTC. With its current holdings, Metaplanet ranks 7th globally in the list of public companies holding the most Bitcoin, according to data from Bitcointreasuries. Metaplanet began its Bitcoin accumulation strategy in April 2024 and recently set a goal to own over 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027, equivalent to 1% of the total market supply. The company's Bitcoin-related business segment also recorded strong revenue, reaching nearly 1.1 billion yen ($7.6 million) in Q2 – a 42.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Metaplanet's stock rose 5.6% to 1,247 yen at noon on Monday in Japan, and although it has declined 16.3% over the past month, it has still increased 258.3% YTD.
