BTC and ETH Perpetual Contracts May Be First Pilot for Virtual Asset Derivatives in Hong Kong
Hong Kong's Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau Secretary Christopher Hui previously stated that the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission is considering introducing virtual asset derivatives trading for professional investors with robust risk management measures. The China Times quoted analysts suggesting that in the early policy stage, Hong Kong's derivatives market is expected to pilot with perpetual contracts of mainstream virtual assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum. International practices from institutions like Singapore Exchange (SGX), Coinbase and the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and the European MiFiDII regulatory framework have prioritized perpetual contracts as an important direction for virtual asset derivatives.
Hong Kong Financial Secretary Christopher Hui stated in a radio interview that stablecoins' underlying asset is fiat currency, which can be used for payment functions through blockchain technology in electronic asset form. Hui said stablecoin issuers will be regulated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, with principles similar to traditional financial assets, including proper customer asset segregation and mandatory redemption within one working day when holders request it.

It should be interpreted as a personal or private communication that did not generate any official public policy direction."

Vitalik: AI Offers Almost No Help in My Expert Domains

Metaplanet Capital Strategy Head Shinpei Okuno posted on X platform that preferred shares are an underdeveloped capital market area in Japan, with almost no listed preferred shares market (possibly only Ito En, SoftBank, and Infronia). Okuno added that the preferred shares strategy could attract broad investors by providing Bit-supported financial products. If Strategy's preferred shares STRF/STRK/STRD and other financial instruments could be freely traded in the Japanese capital market, it would be beneficial, as companies adopting Bit reserve strategies might have the greatest potential in creating fixed dividend products backed by Bit.
Tether USDT issuer CEO Paolo Ardoino reposted an analysis that "Tether would reach a $515 billion market value if listed" and said this is a beautiful number, which would make Tether the 19th largest global company, surpassing Costco and Coca-Cola. While the number is attractive, Tether wants to remain humble but is very excited about the company's next development stage. The current operating model is quite good, and there is no need to go public yet.
