Recently, discussions about whether the JAM protocol in the Polkadot ecosystem will issue a new token have increased, sparking widespread speculation in the community.
In response, Polkadot founder Gavin Wood personally spoke out on the Polkadot forum, clearly stating his firm stance: no new token will be issued!
Gavin Wood's response on the Polkadot forum was direct:
"Personally, I do not intend to issue a new token based on the JAM protocol."
He further pointed out that even though Parity Technologies and the Web3 Foundation leadership have the right to make independent decisions, he personally believes that these organizations issuing a new JAM token would not be a "smart move".
Core Positioning of JAM
Gavin Wood emphasized that the core value of the JAM protocol is to serve as a major technical upgrade and functional enhancement for the Polkadot ecosystem, rather than a new project independent of the existing DOT token.
The development goal of JAM is to improve the overall performance of the Polkadot network, such as significant improvements in processing speed and data storage capabilities, not expansion through issuing a new token.
Gavin Wood explained that any potential new token (if it were to exist) should form a "symbiotic relationship" with the DOT token, jointly promoting ecosystem prosperity, rather than replacing DOT or diluting its inherent value. He clearly stated his opposition to any action that cannot bring substantial net benefits to Polkadot.
