MetaMask has just officially integrated support for Solana on the web browser utility, allowing users to transact, swap and access decentralized applications (dApps) in the Solana ecosystem directly from the wallet.
MetaMask said a similar update will also be available on the mobile app in the next few weeks.
Previously, MetaMask allowed connections to non-EVM networks (like Solana) through Snaps plugins. However, with this integration, the experience will be smoother and more seamless. "Solana is just the beginning," MetaMask shared. "We will continue to support more non-EVM networks in the future to end the situation where users have to switch between multiple wallets." In February, MetaMask also confirmed it will support the Bitcoin network in Q3 2025.
Currently, MetaMask is one of the largest non-custodial cryptocurrency wallets in the world with around 100 million users annually.
Additionally, MetaMask is still consideringlaunching its own token – an idea discussed since 2021. CEO Joseph Lubin of parent company ConsenSys previously stated that this token could promote platform decentralization. Recently, co-founder Dan Finlay shared that the possibility of launching a token remains "possible", especially as the legal landscape in the US becomes more open.
In February, MetaMask and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reached a preliminary agreement to end legal action against the platform, in a context where similar lawsuits against Coinbase and Kraken were also dismissed.
