WalletConnect, the protocol connecting crypto wallets with applications, has deployed WCT token on Solana – this is the third chain after Optimism and Ethereum. Simultaneously, the platform will airdrop 5 million WCT to active Solana users.
The expansion to Solana uses Wormhole's NTT (Native Token Transfers) technology, allowing WCT to move between three chains without wrapping. This deployment occurred just weeks after WCT's launch on Ethereum, following its first release on Optimism's OP network.
To support the launch, WalletConnect Foundation will distribute 5 million WCT through partners like Phantom, Jupiter, Backpack and Solflare. This is part of the total 185 million WCT allocated for airdrop since last September. Previously, the first airdrop distributed 50 million WCT to the community in November.
Currently, WCT is trading at around 0.6 USD, valuing this airdrop at approximately 3 million USD.
Solana users can start receiving the airdrop this summer. Criteria, distribution time, and receiving guidelines will be announced in the coming weeks.
