China has issued a strong warning, declaring that it will retaliate if the US continues to escalate the trade war or impose tariffs on goods imported from this country. This move comes after the US administration decided to double tariffs on Chinese goods.
The Chinese Embassy in the US affirmed on social media X that if Washington really wants to solve the fentanyl problem, they need to dialogue with Beijing on an equal footing. China does not accept the coercive approach from the US.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized its firm position:
"If war is what the US wants, whether it is a tariff war, a trade war, or any other kind of war, we are ready to fight to the end," the statement said.
Spokesperson Lin Jian also called on Washington to quickly return to the path of dialogue and cooperation to avoid escalating tensions.
On March 4, Beijing announced additional tariffs on many US agricultural and food products. Specifically, an additional 15% tariff applies to chicken, wheat, corn, and cotton; an additional 10% tariff applies to soybeans, sorghum, pork, beef, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and dairy. The new tariffs issued by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce will officially take effect on March 10.
In addition to tariff policies, China has also put 25 US companies on the restricted list, of which 15 companies are banned from accessing dual-use technology from China and 10 companies are controlled due to their involvement in supporting arms sales to Taiwan.
The US administration has just ordered to double tariffs on some imported goods from China to 20%, applying to smartphones, laptops, electronic game consoles, smartwatches, speakers, and Bluetooth devices. The trade war between the world's two largest economies is entering a new phase of tension, as both sides are taking tough actions to protect their national interests.
